Artificial Tears and Drops

Artificial tears used to be the mainstay for dry eyes, often recommended by your eyecare professional. There are many different types of artificial tears that temporarily lubricate the eyes, alleviating the dry, scratching feeling and foreign body sensation.

Prescription eye drops such as Restasis or Xiidra  take that one step further, by helping the eyes to produce more natural tears on their own.

Restasis

Restasis is a cyclosporin opthalmic emulsion designed to increase your eyes natural ability to produce tears. The production of these tears is usually reduced due to inflammation associated with dry eye syndrome. Most individuals find with regular use of Restasis, tear production starts as early as 1 month, with a more significant increase with in 3-6 months.

Xiidra

Xiidra is a lifitegrast opthlamic solution prescribed to treat the signs and symptoms of dry eye syndrome. Prescribed for moderate to severe dry eyes , Xiidra, is clinically shown to reduce the symptoms of dry eye within weeks of the initial treatment. The solution is designed to specifically block the interaction of ICAM-1 and LFA-1 (the key mediators behind dry eye inflammation).
